Hi everyone! My name is Olivia. I am almost 4 yrs old.
Up until I was a year old, I met all my milestones normally. I smiled and giggled. I waved and said Mama, Dada and bubble. I clapped at music on my TV show (Bubble Guppies). Everything changed for me around 1 yr of age. Suddenly, I would not make eye contact. No smiling, clapping, or attempts at speech. My mom took me to the Doctor but it took until I was almost 18 months old until we got the diagnosis of Autism.
I had genetic testing done but my autism is not genetic.
In the last 6-8 months I have started to make letter sounds and have started to say Mama, dad, Nana and bye. Occasionally, I have surprised everyone by saying a word that we didn't know I could say but it only comes out once.
Presently, I get an hour of speech therapy every two weeks through Lansdowne Children's Centre in Brantford. I have been on a wait list for funding through the Ontario Autism Program and have been since shortly after diagnosis.
My mom is hoping to raise money to help me get treatment. She put my name on a list at a special school where I will get special therapy to help me learn to speak, get toilet trained, learn to eat a variety of foods and learn to eat with cutlery.
My family knows this treatment can change my life and give me a chance at a better life.
We are hoping to collect the funds to help me attend this school and we will need to have enough money by Apr 30/19.
Any help you can give me will be wonderful. My mom and family want to thank you for reading my story. It has been very hard for them to know they do not have the money to send me to this school without help but my Nana says it takes a village to raise a child and we are hoping to get the help we need from my village.
