Help a Mother in Need

Donation protected
Please help this mother and son avoid homelessness. Leoma is a hard working mother who recently moved to the DC Metro area to pursue a better quality life for herself and her 7 year old son Jermaine from St Louis. Leoma is actively seeking employment and interviews regularly. All of her savings are wiped and she is in jeopardy of losing everything. Any financial contribution to help this mother become stable on her journey is greatly appreciated. No amount is too little.

She is usually the one helping everyone else and this time she needs a few great people to lend a hand.

Prior to leaving St Louis, Leoma was a mentor and volunteer for homeless teens for a large non-profit children’s home society that served hundreds of families each year. She spent much of her time participating in fundraising efforts in support of the children’s home that helped her become emancipated as a minor after a short stay there.

While maintaining full time employment as a public health professional, Leoma also attended St. Louis University School of Social Work in order to earn the degree she had given up on as a younger adult. As a full time student, she still found time to serve on the PTO, mentor students at an inner city elementary school in the St Louis Public School District, as well as helped to connect individuals with rapid HIV and STD screenings through volunteering with the St Louis Effort for Aids program.

Her passion for people in need provided the energy to selflessly dedicate her time to speak out in the community on issues related to families, especially those concerning teens in the foster care system. Leoma was also a very proud spokesperson for the United Way of Greater St Louis where she served as a Torchlighter going around to various companies telling her story of how United Way donations impacted people like her.

Service and sacrifice is something that comes easy for this Mom of a brilliant and charming young man named Jermaine. Jermaine was the gift that changed Leoma’s life forever. When Jermaine was born, Leoma was able to understand true love and has been determined to help women and children in the community feel that same love, ever since.

Always going the extra mile to make life easier for other Mothers and their children. Whether it was collecting donations from strangers or giving from her own home, she made it happen. Often times helping Mothers maintain a feeling of decency and self-worth during times when they were at rock bottom.

Well today, it’s her turn. She really needs your help. Please find it in your heart to donate. Leoma and Jermaine love their new home and community and can’t imagine coming this far to end up out on the street. Both have survived the traumas of a divorce filled with domestic violence.

Leaving those memories behind, they are trying to find their way after moving across the country. Jermaine loves his new school and new friends, he is often selected as student of the week for his willingness to help others. Jermaine is adjusting well to his new life.

Leoma doesn’t have a strong family support system and has been building a small network of friends since her move to the area in November 2015. She has not been able to find another job since completing several projects for an association in Northwest D.C. area in March 2016.

This family is desperately seeking a miracle. The money would help cover living expenses for nearly 90 days while she continues to go through the interview process. She is a very talented professional with solid skills and will be back on track really soon!
