EMHAC Non-Profit 4 Mental Health

$25,000 goal

Campaign created 14 months ago
In today's world, we hear a great deal about mental health and how attitudes are starting to change due to the dedicated work of many organizations and individuals striving to reduce stigma and shame.

EMHAC is one of those organizations, whose mission it is to raise awareness and reduce stigma for people living with mental illness, by hosting events that help to raise funds for organizations that are having an immediate impact on people's lives. Our events also reduce social isolation and assist people in creating connections and building a community of compassion and kindness that supports them.

What's unique about EMHAC? It was started by someone who lives with a complex mental illness of their own and who saw a need within the community to help others on their own journey to recovery. Mental illness is a debilitating illness that is so misunderstood. Many of us suffer in silence and confusion as we struggle to put our lives back together, often having to rebuild a new way of life that has to accommodate the terrible symptoms our illness inflicts upon us.. Due to shame and stigma, we don't often talk about our struggles, or even seek help for the fear of being seen as weak or damaged.

EMHAC wants to change that. With events like #YEGSEMICOLON, we create opportunities for people living with mental illness to come together and share our experiences and help reduce the feelings of loneliness.

1 in 5 people live with a mental illness. It may even be 1 out 4 now. Even more, support someone who lives with a mental illness. Together, we can show how much support there truly is from our community.

EMHAC needs your help to continue the work we have started.. We are a group of passionate volunteers who rely solely on the generosity of individuals and businesses who believe in our cause. Established in August 2015, EMHAC recently obtained Society Status in the Province of Alberta as a non-profit organization.

Any donation would be gratefully accepted and be used to help produce events throughout the year that promote social inclusion and reduce stigma and isolation.

It is our goal to offer at least 4 events throughout the year that will bring together people living with mental illness in ways that unite them and promotes the building of peer support relationships. Funds donated will be used to host these events and cover the costs associated with doing so. Funds that are raised will assist our organization with the administrative costs of operating a nonprofit such as web site hosting fees, signage and marketing materials, and fees associated with applying for charity status.

Benefits of supporting EMHAC include:
- the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to build a community that will empower those living with mental illness to thrive and support one another in their journey to recovery.
- the joy of giving to a grassroots organization that has a funding model that supports other organizations
- being a leader in community building for people living with mental illness
