Send 3 Girls to Africa

As a teacher, I witnessed the negative interactions between the African American girls at our school. Often times, even in elementary school, they were put out of class or in trouble for fighting. My paraprofessional teacher and I felt, in times of crisis we must ... teach. It was us they were waiting for to teach exactly how to love themselves and each other. We began the "Sisters Club" in our classroom at lunch and the impact was immediate. The girls ran to club meetings and the whole culture of the school changed. As they pressed their hands together to say the sisterhood pledge, "You are my other me..." we realized they needed to see their image in the world around them.
Our girls would relish the opportunity to travel to the places we taught them in Sisters Club. From this idea, Fly Girls International was born, a non-profit organization that seeks to provide travel opportunities for African American girls to our ancestral homelands. On November 16-23, 2017 (only 7 weeks away) three of the founding Fly Girls will travel in our first trip to Cape Town, South Africa. The costs of the trip is $8,915.00. Our Fly Girls have already raised a little over $900 to fund their trip. Anything helps, please put your money where your heart is and send our Fly Girls on the journey of their dreams today!
