Selkirk Rex Cat Rescue

This week, Fabulous Felines Cat Rescue spent their labor day alleviating the suffering of 13 purebred Selkirk Rex cats. These cats were originally purchased for show cats, the owners began breeding the cats and the situation quickly got out of control. The owner lost his home and the cats were abandoned to an outdoor area where they were left to fend for themselves and ultimatly suffer with worms, fleas, ear mites and starvation. The original color of the cats is white but all cats were black/grey from flea dirt and their fur felt like sandpaper upon touching. Most of them are also suffering from flea dermatitis as well as open wounds and ingrown toenails. These poor cats have never been to a vet and have a long road of recovery ahead of them. All cats have been treated with revolution and capstar and are on the way to feeling better. They will need an extensive amount of medical care such as shots, dentals, spay/neuter and tests (such as feline leukemia and FIV and also bartonella due to the vast flea infestation on each cat). Even with their situation being so dire, they were starving not only for food but also for affection. When working with the cats it’s not uncommon for the volunteers to become emotional because the situation is so desperate. We are hopeful that we receive enough donations to rehabilitate these cats into the fabulous felines that they so deserve to be and find them loving, FURever homes where they will never be neglected again.
