Please, Help Me Fund My New Service Dog

$5,000 of $5,000 goal

Elizabeth Riggs  LAWRENCEVILLE, GA
My wonderful service dog, Emmy, a black labrabor retriever, is retiring for medical reasons. My new service dog is being trained, but I will need to pay 1/3 of the costs for the training. That is $7000.00.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disease that affects many parts of the body in addition to joints. In my case, I cannot bend over easily, and cannot pick up things I have dropped. I tire very easily, and have balance problems. I am confined to a wheelchair part of the time, otherwise I use a cane, walker or a scooter to get around. Some days are worse than others.

My new service dog will be able to help me do the laundry, turn wall switches off and on, open doors, drawers, and pantry doors, help me get dressed and undressed. Over the past 5 1/2 years with Emmy, I have come to know how much more independent I can be if I have a service dog. Independence means: I can go to the grocery store; attend meetings; go to Church; go down the driveway to pick up the mail; and many more things. I can't begin to list all the ways my life is better with Emmy. Without her, I will be lost and completely dependent on the kindness of others to get through each day.

Please help me become independent once more by contributing any amount. Even $5.00 can make a big difference!

Thank you, very much!

Due to the generosity of a wonderful person, we have achieved our monetary goal! Warrior has been funded!

Next week I will take down this website. If there are posts you particularly enjoyed, you may copy them out.

Ongoing thanks and prayers for blessings to all of the people who contributed to this campaign!

Here's a picture of Warrior resting after pulling the laundry basket of clean towels 55 feet from the kitchen to the bedroom to be folded and put away. If Warrior had thumbs, I'd train him to do the folding, too!

And also a picture we had taken of Warrior and me to give to the school that funded his naming!

Supporters have generously donated a total of $500 - only $320 to go!

Warrior continues to gain the ability to do new tasks almost as fast as I can think of them! His most recent "trick" is to pick up paper without tearing it up! In this household, that is essential - I have stacks of papers on the floor here and there. As I obtain boxes, some of the papers are stored, and some are tossed out. Having Warrior able to "hand" them to me is a blessing!

Here is Warrior in his travel spot - a box lovingly built to Warrior's measurements by Himself (my dear husband). It is hooked to the seat cleats of the "stow-and-go" seats in the van, and is right behind the passenger seat where I sit. You can see our scooters (well fastened in) directly behind and behind and to the right of The Box. Warrior's seatbelt (a padded harness) attaches to an eye-bolt on the front board of the box. It allows some movement, but Warrior cannot wander around in the back of the car. He likes his box anyway, and snuggles down on the 4" thick pad we found on Amazon that is exactly the right size for the box. Basically, if we are in a mild fenderbender, he will be fine. If we are T-boned at higher speed, or rear-ended by an 18-wheeler, we are all seriously injured no matter what kind of restraint is used.

Just need $320 more to fund Warrior! Thanks!
