Books Unbound

I recently launched Books Unbound, a literacy program to empower incarcerated youth in the Lowcountry to rewrite their life stories by having them explore diverse literature. The goal is to equip these children to successfully re-enter society by broadening the possible narratives in which they envision their future selves.

I'm ecstatic that the first book club session is in September 2016. But I'm also a bit frantic, because the books for that session are the only ones I have. Without donations to purchase more, this inaugural book club meeting could also be the last one.

I need $900 to purchase enough books for one year. The breakdown is simple. There will be five incarcerated children per book club session, and each child will need one $15-book for every month of the year.

I have been touched and humbled by the positive reception of Books Unbound by old friends and complete strangers alike, and I am honored to have this opportunity to work with at-risk children in the Lowcountry.

Books Unbound is a 100% volunteer effort on my part. Time is all I am able to give; but with your donations, I can afford books, too. Please donate, and spread the word!
