In November of 2013, mom (Joan) was diagnosed with aggressive Stage 3 Breast Cancer. Even with rounds of chemo, radiation, and a double mastectomy her positive outlook and ability to light up the room still persisted. With it she kicked cancer's butt and was in remission in a year and a half!
Unfortunately after being admitted to the hospital on April 23rd for stroke-like symptoms and running many tests, doctors have concluded the cancer is back and more aggressive than ever. Mom has been diagnosed with metastatic Stage 4 Breast Cancer in the dura mater (lining) of her brain, also known as Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis. She has also suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke as well, due to many surgeries. LMC is a very aggressive and very rare form of metastatic cancer that only occurs in about 2-5% of breast cancer patients. Along with exploration of clinical medicine, we are looking into alternative treatments as well.
Although mom and her future treatments / quality of life are all of our first priorities, we do have to keep in mind the financial aspect. Between previous treatments and future treatments it hasn't been and will not be an easy road, but with everyone's help we hope to ease the pain.
Our mom is the shining light in our lives, as we know she is in many of yours! Together with positive thoughts, prayer, and a STRONG support system it is time to fight even harder for round two! We love you so much Joan/ Joanie/ Mom/ Blue ❤️
