The Refuge: Harm Reduction Services

Donation protected
Hello family and friends. As some of you may know, I am starting a Harm Reduction service for music festivals and other events. This will be a free service for attendees at events and is 100% staffed by volunteers. I've started this campaign in an attempt to raise funds for the necessary supplies to run the harm reduction space. Supplies include...A large tent to create a safe space, pillows, blankets, clothing, food, water, electrical needs, advertising, hand-held radios for efficient communication, educational materials, promotional materials, first aid kits, and drug-testing kits. Below is a breakdown of the services that will be provided...

Harm Reduction Services - The Refuge is a safe and supportive space where festival attendees can go if they find that they are having a difficult psychedelic or psychological experience. The mission of The Refuge is to provide safe, knowledgeable, and compassionate care to people in a non-judgmental and supportive environment. The transformational nature of the festival experience can sometimes become intense and overwhelming. The Refuge will serve as a space where attendees are able to receive assistance as they work through their experience. The Refuge will provide blankets, clothing, water, food, and presence to attendees who find themselves in need of assistance. Our intention is to maintain a compassionate presence in an attempt to facilitate personal growth, learning, and healing while decreasing the potential for a “difficult experience” of becoming a negative experience.

Education Services –  The Refuge will be available to attendees as a resource to raise awareness about the nature of the transformational festival, the importance of self-care and intention, how to integrate one’s experience into the “real” world, how to care for others in the community, and educate attendees about the effects of various substances when taken alone or in combination with other substances. Our intention is to create public awareness around the potential risks of drug use and to reduce these risks by providing tools and information. This will provide attendees with a greater sense of safety for themselves and for others so that we can co-create a festival landscape where we all look out for and care for each other.

Psychological Services – Ryan and the team at The Refuge will be onsite to provide psychological services that will assist attendees who may become overwhelmed at any time during the event. The Refuge will provide onsite counseling and integration services as well as practical tools to help with decreasing anxiety and promote wellness. Services may include guided meditations, mindfulness practices, breathing techniques to decrease stress and anxiety, craniosacral therapy, or simply someone to connect with who will listen with an open heart. Rootwire is a transformational event, meaning that there are ample opportunities for attendees to experience an “awakening” of sorts. While these awakened states of consciousness often occur without any difficulty, that is not always the case. The Refuge is here to assist anyone with their experience, no matter what the nature is.

I greatly appreciate your contribution to this cause. Again, this is 100% run by volunteers, including me. This work comes from the heart with the intention of giving back to community in the form of service. Thank you so very much!
