Happy Child International
Happy Child International was founded in 1993 by former CEO, Sarah de Carvalho. Today, Sarah sits on the Board of Directors to help drive Happy Child International's strategic vision. Sarah is now the CEO of It’s a Penalty - a global campaign to harness the power of sport to protect children from exploitation and abuse around major sporting events. It’s a Penalty Campaign is at full speed with Rio 2016 Olympics happening in August this year.
In Brazil, Happy Child operates in Belo Horizonte southern Brazil and Recife. In 2011, Belo Horizonte became 100% self sustaining and now focuses on prevention work with disadvantaged communities. In Recife, Happy Child International offers provisional full time integrated care for young mothers and their babies who find themselves living on the streets or are facing other forms of vulnerability. Over the last 24 years, 11000 children have been rescued, cared for and reunited with their families or adoptive families in Brazil.
