We are The Holme Primary School , based in Hampshire. We are a small school with 139 pupils aged between 5-11.
At The Holme we have a super outdoor space with plenty of field, forest, pond and games areas. We have a Forest School practitioner who teaches a variety of forest skills (knots, knife skills, building, eco issues) to our children, but other use of the grounds to support children’s learning is not planned and playtimes are a missed opportunity to let children practise key skills while they play.
We are in desperate need of funds to help transform an under-utilised space in to an inspiring and joyful learning environment.
The money would be used to revamp our outdoor classroom by adding a whiteboard, magnetic games, knot tying boards and posters. We'd also like to have a couple of story teller chairs, with reading nooks, equipped with pictures, books, rugs and cushions.
In EYFS playground we'd like to establish clearly defined and well equipped learning spaces as well as flexible storage of resources to allow children to be creative. To have an outdoor display board, an outdoor chalk board, a story teller chair, outdoor cushions/ beanbags and vertical acrylic painting boards. On the ground we'd like ‘roadway’ markings and additional landscapes to create interest, an outdoor kitchen sink unit, additional outdoor storage containers, weather proof canopies & weather proof coats.
We also need to invest in transforming the landscape to create added interest. With the space we have we can really make something so exciting!
On a personal note, I went to this school nearly forty years ago and I've seen it's ups and downs. I'd love to see new life breathed in to this school. It will not only benefit the children but will also bring pride to our whole village community.
