Only just a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending Zoey’s 6th birthday party. Family and friends were there getting excited to see her play on the trampoline, run around with friends, open her many presents and of course eat cake. It was everything a kid’s party should be and a lot of fun for her and her family. That day no one would have expected the battle that was ahead of her.

Zoey is strong, caring, funny, beautiful and very smart. It was devastating when her parents John and Kristi got the news that Zoey was diagnosed with Stage 3 Burkitts Lymphoma. It first started off as what seemed to be a sinus infection. Her nose continued to become more and more clogged. Not long after a lump formed on her neck. The doctor then requested her to go straight to Lutheran General Hospital where she has been having multiple tests, a biopsy, a lumbar puncture, and surgery to put a port in her chest for chemotherapy. Sadly, this is just the beginning of the hardships that will need to be faced.

Despite the battles that Zoey is facing at such a young age she is still remaining strong and keeping her spirits up. I strongly believe she is getting her strength from her parents who have not left her side. They have been rotating a schedule to take care of Zoey and their other daughter Lacey. Her mom Kristi has even been playing a pretend teacher, Ms. Samantha. Zoey loves Ms. Samantha and is able to keep up with her school learning from her hospital bed so she won’t fall behind. She clearly has amazing parents who will be there every step of the way to recovery. Her parents are not alone.  Zoey has a great team of doctors, nurses, family, friends, volunteers and a wonderful sister Lacey who also continues to help to make the process easier.

I am her moms best friend and I wanted to create a Go Fund Me Fundraiser for Zoey to help with the continuing battle that lies ahead. Zoey and Lacey need their parents support and love more than anything in this world right now.  They do not need their parents worrying about finances. The funds will go to an account for Zoey and be used to help cover her surgeries, medical stays and medical expenses. If we can all work together we can try to raise enough money so her parents can focus on what matters most, their two beautiful daughters.

We wanted to keep everyone updated on Zoey. She had surgery yesterday to remove her Chest Port. A couple follow ups are scheduled within the next few weeks. Keep sending positive thoughts and prayers her way.

I just want to share the news that on January 18th Zoey became cancer free!! Her family and friends appreciate all the love and support they have received through this difficult time. She will still be closely monitored through the years by routine blood work. I will continue to keep the fundraiser open until the hospitals bills have been paid for.

"I thank each and every one of you for all your support, prayers and help with our ongoing fight for Zoey.

This past Wednesday, Zoey had blood work and everything came back good. The doctors took her off all medication except for 1 pill, Bactrim. She will continue to take this pill for a while. This made Zoey so happy. Her least favorite pill, Nystatin. IS DONE!! This was an anti fungal mouth wash that she had to swish and swallow 3 times a day. It really is gross. As a Mom you'll do anything to get your child to take their medicine even if it means doing the swish and swallow with her. Yes, I did ask the doctors if it was okay first. They approved so our Zoey wouldn't have to do it alone. It wasn't bad at first but has an awful after taste, and then you cant eat or drink anything for 30 min. after each dose. Well that is over, and we both are so happy for that.

Although everything is looking up we still have a long road ahead of us. On the 17th of January we go in for numerous CT scans and a Pet Scan (full body scan). This will determine where Zoey stands. If her tumors are gone and if no cancer cells light up she will then be in remission.

Once she reaches remission, she will do continuous blood counts through the years to watch her progress.

If everything goes as well as we hope, in 3 months she will go in for another surgery to remove her chest port. That is the device they have been using to access her blood.

Prayers are still needed for good news on the full body scan and support is greatly appreciated with continuous doctor bills we are receiving and will continue recieving throughout this process.

All our love and deepest thanks to everyone. We truely are blessed with friends, family and even strangers helping us get through. "

We want to thank everyone for all your support and prayers during this roller coaster. Yesterday marked the last day of treatment. Yay, we are all so happy. She has blood work once a week for the next month then a full body scan will be scheduled to make sure all tumors and cancer cells are gone. If everything looks great the doctors say she can go in for surgery in 3 months to remove the chest port. Then it's just blood count check ups throughout the years. Her family wants to send a huge thank you shout out to the many wonderful nurses and doctors for seeing them through. They had a great experience with everyone at Lutheran General children's Hospital in Park Ridge and can't wait to see everyone when they are in for blood work. I want to thank everyone for all the donations and messages that were sent. I know I fell behind sending out Thank you notes but everything was more than appreciated. Enjoy the Holidays!
