Feminist Architecture Collaborative of New York City and Amupakin Achimamas (an indigenous women's birthing facility) of Archidona, Ecuador are teaming up to create an Exhibition that has been accepted to show at the United Nations Habitat Exhibition in Quito, Ecuador this October!
The exhibition is significant because it will give the midwives of Amupakin an opportunity to showcase their knowledge of indigenous birthing, healing, and cultivation practices undertaken in the Amazonian rainforest for centuries. These cultural practices are vastly underrepresented in the global understanding of the Amazon and are threatened by the development of the rainforest for resource extraction. After a period of collaboration with Amupakin, Feminist Architecture Collaborative has produced an exhibition which locates indigenous knowledge and culture on an urban and international stage. “Representative Bodies: An Exhibition with the Achimama Delegation at UN Habitat” projects the women of Amupakin into the gallery space of the UN Habitat exhibition via 1-to-1 scale animated drawings and video installation, an immersive environment that presences indigenous women and their skills at full scale.

We need your support! With it, we can afford transportation costs for the midwives to go from the Amazon to the UN Habitat Conference in Quito and stay overnight for 5 days. We will also be able to pay the equipment and rental fees for the exhibition space and pay for digital and printed publication materials for Amupakin. This would mean so much to the midwives, who are fighting to preserve a part of the world that means so much to all of us!
Additionally, we are very hopeful that Amupakin's presence at UN Habitat will give them the exposure to expand their opportunities for continued support and growth. They will be able to network with many international organizations in Quito. Amupakin has worked so hard to develop their business, and the women are so ready to expand the services they offer to new clientele. The exhibition also recognizes and preserves these essential traditions! With your money, the women can continue to birth babies in the Napo region and pass their knowledge and practices to new generations.
El grupo Feminist Architecture Collaborative [Cooperativa de Arquitectura Feminista] de New York City y Amupakin Achimamas, una cooperativa de parteras kichwa de Archidona, Ecuador se unen para presentar una Exhibición que ha sido aprobada para estrenarse en la Conferencia Hábitat III de las Naciones Unidas en Quito, Ecuador este octubre!
Esta exhibición brindará a las parteras de Amupakin la importante oportunidad de resaltar su conocimiento sobre el proceso de parto, asi como de la curación y la agricultura indígena, prácticas las cuales tienen raíces profundas en la Amazonía ecuatoriana. Estás prácticas carecen enormemente de representación en el entendimiento global de la Amazonía, y además se encuentran actualmente amenazadas por la destrucción medioambiental que resulta de la extracción de recursos naturales. Después de un periodo de colaboración con las parteras de Amupakin, Feminist Architecture Collaborative ha elaborado una exhibición que coloca la cultura y el conocimiento indígena en un escenario urbano e internacional. [NOMBRE] proyecta las mujeres de Amupakin a una galería de la Conferencia Hábitat de las NN.UU. por medio de dibujos animados a escala 1 a 1 e instalación de video, que provoca un ambiente imersivo que reproduce la presencia de mujeres indígenas y sus saberes y habilidades a escala real.
Necesitamos su apoyo! Con el cual podemos pagar el costo de transporte de las parteras para viajar de sus hogares en la Amazonía ecuatoriana a la Conferencia Hábitat de las NN.UU. en Quito, además de su hospedaje durante 5 días. Su apoyo también nos dejará pagar los costos de equipo y de arriendo para el espacio de exhibición, además de pagar por publicidad digital e impresa por las parteras de Amupakin. Esta oportunidad les significará mucho a las parteras, las cuales están luchando para preservar parte del mundo que significa tanto para todos nosotros!
