Many of you know that I've known Keith Lucas since the 7th grade. We sat side by side in 8th grade Science class and had secret crushes on each other. We were both in Family Living class our senior year and the teacher held a mock wedding ceremony. She randomly chose Keith as the groom and me as the bride. A photo was taken of the ceremony and published in our yearbook (I have a copy of that photo, that I've kept all these years, as I secretly wished that mock ceremony were a real one). When Keith married right out of high school and I saw his engagement picture in the newspaper, again, I secretly wished it were me.
Years later (38 years to be exact), the good Lord reconnected us. We discovered that our lives have been so similar over the years that we were apart and, therefore, we really understand each other. We found that we are the perfect match and have been planning to get marrried on May 27, 2017 (this time for real).
Keith once told me that he wished we had been together all of these years, and my response was that I was just grateful that the good Lord was giving us "our time" now. I pray that it's God's will that we enjoy a lot of time together, because on September 14, 2016 we learned that Keith has stage 4 kidney cancer that has spread to his liver and his lungs. He underwent an MRI on September 23, 2016 and a biopsy on September 28, 2016 and we see his oncologist on October 4, 2016 to recieve his final diagnosis and discuss treatment options.
Keith has undergone many tests within the last month, all of which are quite expensive and we have no idea yet as to what kind of treatment and how much he will have to endure (which will also be very expensive). He is unable to work at this time, so if you find yourself in a position to assist, it would be greatly appreciated. If you aren't able to contribute, all that we ask for is your prayers. Positivity and prayers are what he needs the most.
Anyone who has ever met Keith knows what a wonderful person he is. I describe him as a beautiful man, both inside and out. Back in school he was quite the athlete and very popular. He was always so cute, nice, fun and funny (he has personality plus). Those who know him today (friends, family and co-workers) feel that same way about him. I can't say enough good about him because he is everything that I've ever wanted in a man and has been worth waiting for.
Our world has turned upside down but we have to keep believing that Keith will survive and thrive. We don't want to be robbed of our happy ending. We have to place all of our faith and trust in God at this time. And we have to pray that the doctors will do their part in providing Keith the proper treatment that he needs in order to fight the good fight. He is the bravest and strongest man that I've ever met and I don't want to lose him anytime soon (I love him with all of my heart and soul).
Again, should you find yourself in a position to donate to Keith's fund, we would be most grateful, however, what's most important is the love, friendship, support and prayers that we have been receiving from everyone.
