Light of Love School, Yenangyaung

Hi, my name is Cindy and I am here to share a story of a little school in Myanmar that provides hope and opportunity to children, mostly orphaned through HIV.

In July last year, I travelled to Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) with my husband, daughter and father-in-law.  During our visit we met many amazing and inspiring people, but one person stood out from the rest - and that was founder of Light of Love School, Eric Trutwein.

Eric is my father-in-law's cousin and returned to his home town of Yenangyaung on retirement only to be confronted with poverty and many children without education and orphaned by AIDS.  Eric was inspired and motivated to do something great for the children of Yenangyaung and so he built up Light of Love School.

Eric provides free education, uniforms, food and medical care to the students.  Light of Love is one of the few licensed private schools in the Magway Division.  You can read more on the school by visiting the website - leithargone-guesthouse.com

We  were fortunate to spend an afternoon with the children, who happily welcomed us and especially our daughter, Elaria.  With only hula hoops and elastics to play, they soon ventured to a pile of rocks where they dug around for shells, and proudly showed Elaria around their school.

Eric showed us an outdoor kitchen which was close to completion, where he will be able to provide food for the children during the day.  He shared the story that as most of the children arrive on the back of motor bikes, with the roads being extremely bumpy, by the time they arrive at school, their little tiffins with soup are mostly empty as the soup has sloshed out on the journey to school.

Another inspiring story of what hope this school has provided, is where two students that had attended the school, were able to gain further education and have now returned to Light of Love School as Teachers Aids.  Their future without the school, would have been very bleak at best.  The education provided has prevented a future of begging on the streets.

Visiting Light of Love School, has compelled my husband and I to fundraise to bring further hope to this wonderful initiative and to bring further hope and happiness to these beautiful children.

With the generosity of family, friends and beyond we hope to fundraise $2000.  This will provide much needed school supplies which will benefit the education of the children.

We intend to the school in 2017 in anticipation of presenting Eric and the children with your generous donations.

We sincerely thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
