Saving Sparkie

When I was 14 years old, I passed my exams and, as a reward, my parents allowed me to have what I had prayed for since I was 3 - my first dog.
Sparkie, his name was - a pedigree dog, but unwanted. He was owned by a little boy, whose mother didn't like dogs and got rid of him while the boy was at school. He was 2 years old.
Sparkie has been a much-loved fixture in our family, though his heart has been firmly given to my mom for the last nine years. Throughout her rocky divorce from my dad, when she would lie in bed all day crying and severely depressed, Sparkie would snuggle with her. Caring for him was one of the things that kept her going through the darkest parts.
Last year, Sparkie developed cataracts and lost his sight. Out of his two favourite games, he lost the ability to play with shadows - but not his ball. He plays ball as avidly as ever. New person enters the house - out comes the ball. He tires more easily, and takes longer to find it, but the ball is still Sparkie's idol.
Recently, we noticed that Spark's eye had become bloodshot, and my mom took him to the vet today to see what could be done. Pressure building up behind the eyeball, in the socket, means our beautiful and beloved dog is going to lose his eye, my mom told me down the phone in tears. (I hate hearing her cry.)
However, the operation is going to cost £600, and the longer we leave it, the more at risk Sparkie is. The vet said we could keep him for another five/six years yet; we don't want to lose him.
Mom's booked the operation for Wednesday, currently with no funds to spare. If you could help us towards meeting the cost, we would be very, very grateful.

I'll post a photo of Sparkie as soon as he gets his eye done - and probably with his ball!

Thank you and God bless you. xx
