Woodgrove Odyssey goes to Worlds!

We are the coaches of two Woodgrove High School Odyssey of the Mind teams, and we are proud to share that both of our teams have made it through our Regional and State competitions and are headed on to represent Virginia in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Ames, Iowa, May 25-28, 2016!
After months of preparation, our team of freshmen won first place among Virginia high schoolers for their answer to “Aesop Gone Viral,” and our team of juniors was the only team at States granted the prestigious Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award because of the way they combined the answers to two different problems in one solution. At Worlds they will be performing in creative problem solving competitions against teams from most of the states and approximately 25 other countries. Our kids have spent hours each week throughout the year preparing for these contests, and are thrilled that they have won this fantastic honor! They are extremely excited to meet the challenge!
However, travelling to Iowa and then staying in the dorms for four days is very expensive—and doubly so with two teams. Housing at Iowa State University will be $575 per person, so for our 14 team members, plus two chaperones per team, room and board alone will cost $10,350. Travel, including gas and hotels en route, will be another significant expense.
So we are here to ask you to support these kids as they head west! Will you please consider helping to make their journey to the Odyssey World Finals possible? This is a trip of a lifetime, and our teams will be so grateful for your help!
