Over the past 10 years, Hunter’s Competitive Dance Company (HCDC) has raised thousands of dollars for Children’s Charities with the Annual HCDC Benefit Showcase. Originally, HCDC performers used their talent in dance and tumble to benefit the UNC Children’s Hospital and the Wilson Medical Center’s Pediatrics Department. Both hospitals were able to purchase much needed Pediatric medical equipment with the donations. Recently HCDC contributed to the CHEW and the ARC’s Summer Camps for children with special needs. Last year HCDC with the help of the “Dancing with the Stars” Couples – Dr. Steve and Bridget Ellis, Dr. Robert and Jessica Satterfield, and Jeremy Tucker with Hunter Peebles, raised money for several charities. The donations went towards helping Mulligan’s Fore Kids pay for handicap accessible home renovations for twin boys with cerebral palsy. Another donation was made to Harrison Barnett, who receives dialysis at UNC Children’s Hospital 3-4 times a week, as he waits for a kidney. Harrison is such a special little boy with a fighting spirit and a positive attitude even with all he endures on a daily basis! The last beneficiary of the money raised last year was the Exceptional Children’s Program at Fike High School. The EC students and teachers were thrilled to receive 2 new laptop computers and a projector for the classrooms after having to borrow a laptop from another teacher the year before.
This year’s HCDC “Dancing with the Stars” Benefit Showcase will be held at Fike High School on Sunday, March 6 at 2:00 PM. The 2016 “Stars” are Dell Joyner - owner of Joyner’s Funeral Home, and George Fletcher Duke – better known as the “Grinch” of Wilson; Amber Lynch – Director of Public Relations of Wilson County Schools and Eric Davis – Chief Operations Officer of Wilson County Schools; John Sorenson – BB&T Senior Vice President – Contact Center Channel Manager and Tonya Sorenson – Tap Instructor at Hunter’s Dance and owner of Tonya Sorenson Interior Design.
Performing couples compete for three separate awards: Best Technical Performance; Most Entertaining; and MOST MONEY RAISED! Each couple will have a Gofundme page so friends and family can start contributing towards the Most Money Raised Award! Please contribute to the couple of your choice! No amount is too small! HCDC chooses charities to benefit children/youth in the Wilson Community. This year HCDC will donate proceeds to Mulligan’s Fore Kids, Wilson County Schools Exceptional Children’s Program, and Avery VanHouten, a 4 year old twin girl with Goldenhar Syndrome. A small portion of the money will be used to buy Costumes/Shoes for students at Dee’s House (a non profit preschool for underprivileged children) and Costumes/Shoes for the Ta Da Special Needs Class at Hunter’s Dance. Hunter’s Dance offers a dance/tumble class for children with special needs and for the students at Dee’s House. Hunter Peebles, owner of Hunter’s Dance, wants the HCDC dancers/tumblers to use their God given talent to help other children and to benefit the Wilson Community! She loves the fact that the performers seem to get more excited about raising money to help others than they do about winning Top Awards at Regional and National Dance Competitions. HCDC is grateful to the Wilson Community for the tremendous support each year with the “Dancing with the Stars” Benefit Showcase! A special thanks to all of the couples who step out of their comfort zone to join with HCDC in raising money to help the children! Besides donating to the couple of your choice, please come out and support these performers at the Showcase on March 6, 2016 at 2PM! Tickets can be purchased at Etix.com or at the door at Fike High School.  Also, there will be a Silent Auction and Vendors in the Lobby! Do not miss out on one of the Most Fun and Entertaining Events in Wilson!!
