Shawn Byrd's Heart Transplant Fund

Shawn Byrd is 14 years old and has Marfan Syndrome.  On April 25th of 2016 he had open heart surgery to fix his bulging aortic root.  Just 4 months later, a valve in his heart failed and he went to the hospital with heart failure and had to endure yet another open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve.  This time around was harder on him than the last as his heart had trouble getting back to normal after a week of heart failure.

Even after Shawn's second surgery to replace his aortic valve, his heart continued in advanced heart failure.  As a result, the doctors suggested Shawn consider a heart transplant.  After a few weeks of waiting for his heart to recover, it became clear that his heart was instead becoming worse.  He soon was placed on the heart transplant list at the highest priority.  Less than four weeks later, Shawn endoured yet another open heart surgery on November 30th, 2016.  This time, for a full heart transplant. 

Shawn Byrd is an amazing young man!  His attitude through all of this is truly inspiring.  He is an example to all of us how to persevere through trials in life.  He has taken James 1:2 to "heart":

"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience."

Shawn has spent many weeks (and counting) in the hospital.  The costs are mounting up.  While insurance helps, there are large deductables and a ton of expenses.  Shawn's family is already struggling.  Any donation to this Medical Expenses Fund would help the family a great deal!
