I am asking for funding that will put a huge spotlight on an issue that has fundamentally altered my sister with PTSD. She was in the military for 24 years. She tried to voice her story to her superiors, only to suffer harassment, assault, and hostile work environment as a result. Her diagnosis prevented her from being accepted in spite of her attempts to get better and do her duty. Moreover, she is the victim of unfair treatment for voicing experiences. Instead of the military providing her with support and guidance in coping with her disability, she has been charged with a minor infraction of the UCMJ and seek court-martial. For most people the infraction would be dealt with either verbal counseling or at the unit level, and these people do not suffer from PTSD. Ultimately, her 24 years of service are now discredited, but she has not given up.
As many of you know, twenty military members commit suicide each day. Many of these soldiers do not have the support to take on the system when they feel abused. My sister is not downtrodden. She is emboldened with a higher purpose to be an advocate for those who have suffered the same fate.
I am seeking to raise $15,000 at this time to hire a forensic psychiatrist and cover additional attorney fees that are incurring, and helping her bring this case to a higher level to show the treatment military members diagnosed with PTSD endure. Any funds that are not used will be donated to either "The Innocent WarriorPproject" or "Defend our Warriors."
Per her attorney, I will not include any names, pictures, any information about her branch of service, and specific details of the case.
