This campaign is launched to call attention to the human rights violations against Faysal Muhumed Omar who was executed on 29 October 2016 in the Somali Regional state of Ethiopia, by the orders of the regional president Abdi Mohamud Omar. Faysal is survived by his wife Amina Ahmed and six children. In addition to the plight of Faysal’s widow and her children, his father, mother, sisters and brothers have endured relentless persecution, including intimidations, evictions, and threats related to rape, torture and execution by the same man who ordered his execution.
Faysal’s family have decided to stay in their country and seek legal redress through local and if necessary international legal avenues. Faysal's family plead with everyone to respect their privacy while grieving and to desist from politicizing this purely criminal matter.
We are calling on ALL Ethiopians and people of conscience worldwide to support Faysal’s wife and children at this particularly difficult time in their life.
The objective of this appeal is however beyond assisting Faysal’s grieving family. While Faysal’s widow have stable source of income, it cannot be sufficient to support them with legal expenses in their pursuit for justice.
