Walking to Remember

WALKING FOR MEMORIES

In 2016 Christine Dove and I decided to challenge ourselves and walk 100kms in 10 days for HOUSE WITH NO STEPS.   2017 we have decided that we will walk again, however this time we will walk 100kms in 7 days, for a cause close to our hearts…..

Dementia has claimed the memories and lives our loved ones past and present. We feel that as we lead our day to day lives, we sometimes can forget how the simple things in life can be taken for granted.

January 30th kicks off our 100km challenge as we would like to raise as much money as we can and donate this back to our community.

Magnolia Cottage and Nowra Adult Centre are just two of the organisations who help people like Natalie’s father, Christine’s grandparents, Mel’s grandmother and maybe some close to your heart.  They give them the respite and connection to the world they may sometimes forget.

All proceeds raised will be donated equally between Magnolia Cottage and Nowra Adult Centre.

So what is Dementia:

Dementia is the term used to describe the symptoms of a large group of illnesses which cause a progressive decline in a person’s functioning.

It is a broad term used to describe a loss of memory, intellect, rationality, social skills and physical functioning.

Did you know:

That there are more than 353,800 Australians living with dementia

Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia and there is no cure

Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people with dementia is expected to be almost 900,000 by 2050
