Rallying For Ryan

A year ago yesterday, a 19 year old who was enjoying his second year of college, playing his dream sport of baseball and looking forward to a future of being a husband, father and the excitement of a career ahead of him all froze, as Ryan Roberson waited for the results of the biopsy from a sore on his leg.
Ryan graduated from Rockwall-Heath High School in 2017. He was well liked in school and loved being part of the Heath Hawks baseball team. It was a great season for them that senior year. Ryan and his team even showed up late to prom from a playoff game! Ryan graduated in the top half of his class and then headed out to college where life would begin!
However, July 19, 2018 became a day of unknowns as to what the next year would hold. The first post for “Rallying for Ryan” came out on FB. The news came that we all feared, Ewing Sarcoma, a fast spreading cancer.
Ryan, his mother and younger brother left their Rockwall home empty and moved in with family in Dallas to be closer to children’s Hospital in Dallas. Ryan’s mom, Helen, gave up her substitute position with RISD to begin 24 hour care for Ryan since the diagnosis.
Ryan fought with courage and trusted the Lord through the days of chemotherapy and radiation. Ryan went home with the Lord yesterday, July 19th, 2019. One year from the news that changed the course he planned and hoped for.
Helen and her family have sacrificially given time, money and surrendered all for the care of Ryan and the hope of healing this past year. Now, we, as a community have the opportunity to help them have rest and renewed strength in the memory of an amazing young man, Ryan Roberson.
