Battle of The Cancer
My name is Dursun Amil. I was born in 1969. I have a small family: a wife of 25 years, who has been with me through all phases of life, and my 14 years old son. Both my wife and I were working parents and everything was normal until on January 6, 2016 when we received life changing news. Based on my endoscopy results, I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastasis-stomach and esophagus cancer. Because I could not breathe and had blood clots all over my body, I was rushed to the emergency room. In the past year, I have had 9 surgeries to combat the cancer diagnosis. Due to internal bleeding, I have had blood transfusions, power ports and filters installed in my body. In addition to the chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments, I have been hospitalized for 3 months undergoing all the necessary treatments. During this course of treatment, my cancer has metastasized to my liver and due to complications in the esophagus, a support was installed. Because of all the medical treatments, neither my wife nor I could work. With financial support from our friends, we have been able to manage our household.
