Help Us Keep Sharing Mexican Folklore Dance in Arizona!

Ollin Yoliztli is a 501c3 non profit professional Mexican folklore dance academy. And your donations are tax deductible.

Donate right now, and become part of this grass roots effort to instruct the beautiful art of Mexican folklore dance to everyone. We teach all students, kids and adults. Students with disabilities and all the way to professional dancers.

Ana Bonilla who our Director, is a graduate of one of Mexico's most prestigious academies, El Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (the National Institute of the Arts).  She has been teaching for 40 years and started her dance carreer when she was 9 years old by training full time as part of her school curriculum.

22 years ago she moved to the United States and started teaching out of her home in her living room with only 2 students; building what is now Arizona's premier traditional Mexican folklore ballet school.

For the past 10 years she has been  teaching authentic Mexican folklore art and its culture in a small 500sq ft classroom. First it was only her teaching and eventually her son and daughter also decided to join in teaching as the group continued to grows.  Her son Hector is the oldest member of the group and is now a professional dancer with 22 years of experience!

The donation you are making right now will provide us the financial support we need so that we can get into a new studio.

Ollin Yoliztli has grown out of Ana's living room to community centers and then to the church classroom where they have been for the past 10 years. But this 500sq ft classroom is far too small for our students and their parents.  We have tried for years by breaking our classes into many groups and various classtimes. But even with all our efforts to split up our classes this Summer we hit an all time capacity limit.

Our students are some of the most hard working. And they don't complain but we know they would love to have room to practice and move freely, a place where they can practice on dance floors instead of carpet, and a place that they can call their folklorico home.

Ana comes from an academic career where all dance schools big or small had wooden floors, mirrors, and double doors for sound insulation. This was the standard for professional dance instruction in her schools but unfortunately she has never been able to have a classroom in the United States with these basic features.

The current church classroom that Ollin Yoliztli practices at belongs to her church, Phoenix Christian Assembly.

They have been most wonderful in helping her by allowing her to use it for the past 10 years but this Summer the A/C broke and even through the repairs her group kept growing and they really need a new classroom.

Her gratitude goes out to her Church and specially to Pastor Don Grosvenor and their staff who have always done more than enough to help her.

Ana is single mother, taking care of her whole family of 3.  As a dance instructor her work is all freelance work, without a fixed salary and she has struggled to remain a full time instructor all this time. It is not easy and because of this financial uncertainty, she has held on to the church classroom all of this time .

For the past 3 months we have been looking for classrooms and a new location and we have found a new place with 1500sq ft with a landlord who is more than happy to help us.

Your donation will allow us to move into this new classroom.

Ana has always dreamed of teaching just like she learned when she was 9 years old all the way to adulthood: on wooden floors, with mirrors at the sound of the drum.

Ana's passion has been immesurable and she knows she will be doing teaching for the rest of her life.

Mexican folklore dance is not only a way of sharing our culture but our impact goes far beyond dance.  Our students from the youngest to the oldest are living testimonies of changed lives.
