Hi, my name is David, and I started this fundraiser so I could get approximately $9,500 (edit 6/6) worth of dental work done.
All my life, I have had problems with my mouth and teeth. When I was a baby, I could pop my jaw in and out of place on the left side. My mom said it was weird hearing a baby do that to yawn, and I still have to pop my jaw to yawn, but I can also pop it whenever I want to.
As I got older I couldn't chew with my mouth closed at all, due to the top of my mouth being narrower then the bottom and my teeth not matching up.
When I was in fourth grade, I went to get braces and had to have a few teeth pulled because I had too many teeth. I also had to have a Palatal expander put in (that's a roof spreader - you stick a little key in a hole and turn it and it spreads the top of your mouth out over time). That REALLY hurt, but I could chew with no problems when that was done.
When I was 15, I had to have all my braces removed because I had gotten into trouble with the law, and they didn't want me to use my braces as a weapon. (Yeah you read that right "“ what, was I going to bite people instead of punching them?) The braces were never replaced, and that caused additional issues.
Here's the situation now:
* I have one wisdom tooth on the bottom left that never erupted and is growing sideways and pushing on my teeth on that side.
* I have had one tooth that was pushed up and out removed, and now the next in line is being pushed up and is loose.
* I have on the top right in the back a broken to the gumline tooth, several teeth that are loose.
* I have lost two teeth in the front top, and have two more that are loose.
* I went to the dentist last year to see what all needed to be done. They said that I had a degenerative bone disease and that the bone is deteriorating around my teeth and making them loose and fall out and that the best thing to do would be to have all of my teeth removed and to get dentures. (Oh how fun.)
My mouth is always hurting - there are teeth that hurt all the time; just a steady pain, then there are times that the pain will be REALLY bad. Specially on the bottom left, I am guessing the wisdom tooth is moving and pushing on the other tooth. I have a really high pain tolerance. I can usually handle pain, I just ignore it, but that? I cannot ignore the constant level of pain in my mouth currently. The dentist said that it would cost about $9,500 (edit 6/6) dollars to do all of the removal and get dentures. That doesn't included general anesthesia, pain medication during recovery, or any other problems the dentist may encounter while operating.
I have researched the dental school options, and there are none in my area who will do this type of work. There are no medical assistance options for emergency dental work available to me at this time. Besides the constant pain, the bigger concern is infection which could lead to sepsis.
