Dear friends and family,
As you may know, Debbie passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2013 after waiting for a liver transplant that never came in time. She was courageous, strong and maintained hope throughout her journey, even as the disease caused her much pain and suffering.
We want to thank each and every one of you for the continued concern, prayers, support, hugs, calls, and for your monatery donations. We are blessed to have such a caring and generous network of family and friends.
As a family we are shocked and grieving, but many have expressed their concern, commitment and dedication to providing some financial support for the educational future of her 2 1/2 yr. old daughter Sofia. I have gone ahead and set this donation link up to make it easier to pass this along to all family and friends. All monies donated will be set up in a trust fund for Sofia. Thank you all so much for all your prayers and your continued support, we will be forever thankful.

Deb's Story: Behind the Badge
How do you describe someone who suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder due to trials, tribulations, and aftermath of a career protecting and serving the community she grew up in:simply loving and selfless.
How do you describe someone who since being a little girl wanted to help others no matter how it could negatively impact and lead to the shortening of her earthly life:Heroic.
Deborah Ann Belmonte was and always will be a tough but a kind-hearted Chelsea Cop. She did her due diligence to always protect and serve in the most righteous manner possible.
She was a part of many tough and gruesome cases. She was involved in physical chases and arrests that appeared something out of a cop TV show or movie. Sadly she had to deal with the ordeal of being first on scene, searching for 45 minutes for a girl who was drowning and once found was unable to bring her back to life. While she was working an undercover prostitution ring, she was badly beaten and bitten by a "John" who left her and another for dead on the sidewalk because backup did not arrive in time, or when she was arresting a junkie who fought with her to prevent arrest and stabbed her with a needle infected with Hepatitis-C, and she herself was infected with the disease.
Interactions and altercations like these led to her PTSD. This and the disease she contracted, along with feeling a lack of support from and poor relationships with her inconsiderate and sometimes inappropriately abrasive superiors led her to an early retirement from the career she loved.
Although she had other jobs that followed, including her most important one of mother, her instincts to protect and serve anyone who needed it never left her. After a tragic fatal accident in Saugus in May of 2009 that killed one pedestrian instantly, she rushed across the street and diligently first responded to the other critically injured person until authorities arrived. Thanks to her actions she did survive and eventually fully recovered. Another time was on Central St in Saugus when she witnessed a man get struck by a car and lay unconscious and not breathing in the street, she once again jumped into action helped the man and comforted him until help arrived. Deb never expected or sought any attention for doing what she knew was simply the right thing to do.
Deb left this earth with no ill will towards anyone and blessed us with her little angel Sofia. We should only remember her as a loving mother, sister, daughter, godmother, auntie, cousin, friend to all, and one tough cop. She would want everyone to realize that all of our heroes that deal with great trauma, whether soldiers, police officers, fire-fighters, paramedics, and ER staff members just to name a handful can suffer from some form of PTSD and as a community we need to give them all of the love and support they deserve. Deb fought a good fight right up until the end knowing that the career she wanted so badly as a child would only eventually take her life. Debbie will forever be in our hearts.
