The Intenational Clown Hall of Fame and Research Center contains the largest depository of clown artifacts in the world. Our mission is to promote, educate, honor and celebrate the art of clowning worldwide.
Our home is Baraboo, Wisconsin, also known as "Circus City" and the home of the original Ringling Brothers who started the Greatest Show on Earth here 147 years ago. This community embraces their circus history and clowns are considered the "peg" on which a circus is hung . The ICHOF is an important spoke in the circus wheel that helps define Baraboo to locals and guests worldwide who visit our community.
The Baraboo area recently experienced heavy flooding rain that created many challenges to roads, homes and business owners. The ICHOF was affected by this weather situation in that the roof of our building that houses the collection was compromised and the result was massive flooding to a major section of our exhibit area. One of a kind historical posters and lithographs, wardrobe, props and display elements were damaged and many physical, non historic areas (ceiling tiles, light fixtures, walls, carpet) were badly affected.
The Board of Directors of the ICHOF is currently assessing the damage and working with the building owners, insurance personal and preservation specialists to determine the best, most cost effective methods to return the museum to it's original standards.
This situation falls well beyond any budgeted financial surplus. The Board of Directors asks for your kind help and support as we rebuild this one of a kind museum to honor those human beings who bring laughter to the world.
Any level of financial support is most welcome and gratefully accepted. Your generosity means everything to us, as we move forward to "bear the torch" and help light the way for future generations to appreciate the craft of the clown and those who dedicated their lives to laughter.
