Making The Cut For The Animals

I'm Clayton! A hairy, compassionate vegan. Well...I won't be that hairy for much longer!
I have been growing my dreadlocks for nearly 10 years now but have been thinking about cutting them now for a while. After someone mentioning I should shave them off for charity, it gave me the kick to finally get on with it and do it! Any excuse to help the animals where I can, i'll be there!
I have made the decision of donating all the money I raise to the amazing non-profit charity F.R.I.E.N.D animal sanctuary. Living down in Dorset, I have struggled to find the time to get up there and help out. So although I am unable to physically get up there easily, I want to be able to do my bit where I can to help keep it running. Especially now as winter is coming which means there will be a big demand for hay!
There aren’t a great number of farm sanctuaries in England, which makes F.R.I.E.N.D extra important in providing a place of residence for rescued farm animals, and spreading the vegan message.
F.R.I.E.N.D. Animal rescue started on a cold monday morning at Seven Oaks market in the early 90s with the purchase of a lamb by Marion Eaton. Little did Marion realise how that day and that £1 purchase was to change so many live
You might say that F.R.I.E.N.D. was founded by Marion, who was a long term and highly committed vegan, on that freezing day in January and soon many animals were to follow. It was not long before it was recognised as a one woman, little sanctuary with a big message.
It was Marion's intense and driving desire to let the people meet the animals that were considered to be food and change that mindset. There are many that come through the gate as meat eaters and leave as vegetarians/vegans.
For many years Marion ran the sanctuary alone until meeting and marrying Mark in 2003. They have worked hard in unity ever since. To this day, the vegan message is paramount, along with campaigning for farmed animals. Marion and Mark shared a strong desire to show people that it is possible to live in peace and harmony with animals and people alike.
But in January of this year, so many of us were hit with the awful news that Marion had passed away after a tragic fall. The world lost a hero that day and would love to think that with these donations, we can keep Marion's passion alive and of course help out her wonderful husband Mark.
FRIEND animal sanctuary rely sorely on caring people's goodwill as they don't receive any public aid. All donations go to helping the animals in our care and paying for feed, essential equipment and veterinary bills.
I have set a target of £500 only because I have no idea how to expect. But every donation helps! <3
I'll be sad to see them go, and it will be a big deal to lose them after so long but at least I won't accidently strangle myself in my sleep again, or get them caught in the rowing machine! And of course knowing all the money will be going to help the amazing FRIEND Animal Sanctuary totally makes it all worth it!
