William's Medical Fund

Donation protected
William is only three years old. But William has suffered. He has suffered unspeakable acts of cruelty and neglect. He was abandoned at the kill shelter. He lay there  injured and didn't receive treatment, not even pain meds.

He was walked back to the EBI room not once, but twice. Finally he was rescued and placed in what we all thought was a safe foster home, only to be dumped back at the kill shelter and locked in isolation for biting a child. *Turns out, he never bit anyone, but spent 10 days in bite quarantine anyway.

The P.A.W.S. Club at Harlandale HS held their year end club meeting in May and decided they wanted to use their remaining club funds to rescue two EBI dogs from Animal Care Services. They had raised $1300 and wanted to donate those monies to a few dogs in need.

William was one of the club's choices. The P.A.W.S Club asked P.A.W.S. rescue to place a hold on William and was able to pull him to safety.

Unfortunately, William was heartworm positive and was nursing a leg injury that would require surgery.

And that's where William's story takes a dramatic and sad twist. Once William lost his medical foster, he had no where safe to go. Boarding was frowned upon because of his stress level and medical condition. Time was not on our side, but an adopter in Colorado came forward and offered a safe place for William to recover.

P.A.W.S. paid the $300 BQ fine and $150 transport fee and was able to send William to his new home in Colorado within a week of release from BQ.

P.A.W.S. agreed to send William's adopter the $1300 to cover his medical in Colorado, thinking that this would be more than enough to treat William.

William's new vet in Colorado quoted $550-600 for heartworm treatment. What we were not aware of was that the quote was only for one injection.

William's first injection was $615. The vet requires two more and has quoted $749.

The P.A.W.S. club donated $880 and P.A.W.S rescue has already donated $1133. He still needs to have some growths removed, have his blood work monitored and leg surgery in about 8 months. But because he has relocated, he can not receive the heavily discounted care that SA vets can provide.

The P.A.W.S. Club students that ultimately chose to save William are discouraged because they believed their donations would heal William 100%. Had his foster not backed out and his medical been performed in SA, our current plea for financial aid wouldn't be needed.

We do not feel it is fair for William's adopter to have to pay for all his medical, however the P.A.W.S. rescue does not have the $5000-$7000 that is going to be needed to support him.

We are turning now to our fellow animal lovers and rescue village for your support in treating William.
