Laurie's Cancer Fund

Hello Friends,

My name is Jim Honer and I would like to share a story with you.

Imagine for a minute that you are 27 years old, happily married with a 2 yr old son but you have been experiencing strong abdominal pain for the last 9 months.  Dozens of Dr office visits, a multitude of tests, scans and xrays later you find yourself at yet another Doctor's office.  The news he gives you is devastating.  You have an extremely rare form of cancer called Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma , abbreviated as eHAE.  Not only do you have this rare cancer but your liver is completely enveloped so you need a liver transplant!

This is the news my daughter-in-law was given in a doctor’s office in April 2015.  She was put on the transplant list and was told she would hopefully have a new liver within a year.  Here we are now in December of 2016 and she is still waiting.  Laurie has endured being on an immunotherapy medicine that appears to have stunted the growth of the cancer but of course she also suffered from side effects and she still suffers with bouts of extreme pain that lasts for days to weeks.  She has had to take a lot of time off work that has been covered under FMLA and her paid time off but we know that once she gets the new liver she will be missing an extensive amount of work.

My son Jeremy works as a landscaper and owns his small business but barely makes enough to make ends meet.  Because of this, Laurie is the primary breadwinner of the family and she also provides the family with medical insurance through her job working as a Lab Tech in a hospital.  It is for this reason I am asking for donations to help them out.  When Laurie does have her surgery they will need all the help they can get to pay for household bills, food, co-pays for her prescriptions, more office visits and of course, their share of the hospital bills that insurance does not cover.  I’m sure that other expenses will come up that are unexpected, like her car transmission just went and they are struggling to pay for that right now.

Jeremy and Laurie are great people who are just trying to live as normal a life as possible while having this hang over their heads.  We all have Fear for what the future holds for them and Hope that all goes well.  With your help we can alleviate some of the fear they have over possibly losing their house or Jeremy’s business or just not knowing how they will be able to make ends meet with all kinds of bills coming in and little cash in their bank account.

We will never be able to thank you enough for your help.  I promise that if I have a way to contact you I will keep all of you updated on Laurie’s progress.  We pray that she will get a liver soon and pray that you would also have the courage to be an organ donor.  Without the  organ donor, we realize that Laurie would not have a chance at beating this disease.
