Cancer Patient Health Insurance

Hi! My name is Rebecca, and I am 19 years old. I graduated from Batavia High School in 2015 and am now a student at Tulane University in New Orleans. I am a double major in International Relations and French with a minor in history, and I hope to one day be a diplomat. Right now, though, my dreams have been sidetracked for a little bit.

At the beginning of this past August, I underwent a surgery to remove what we thought was a five-pound dermoid cyst and my left ovary. A few days later, however, the pathology report came back with different findings. The cyst was actually a germ cell tumor. While most of the tumor was mature/benign, a small portion was cancerous/immature. The cancerous portion was diagnosed as stage 1, grade 2. The doctors are pretty sure that all the cancer was removed when the tumor was taken out, but just to be on the safe side and to ensure that it does not come back, I have to go through 9 weeks of what is, essentially, preventative chemo (the type of chemo is BEP).

I am grateful that my prognosis is incredibly positive, as the doctors are confident that after I complete these nine weeks, I should not have to worry about the cancer coming back. The chemo will nonetheless be difficult to get through, though. Additionally, because of my chemo, I have had to take a medical leave of absence for first first semester, which is truly one of the most difficult things about all this. I wholeheartedly love learning, and already I am finding that I miss sitting through lectures and writing papers. I will get through it, though, and am already planning to take classes next summer to ensure I will graduate on time.

The reason I started this gofundme is because I recently found out that I will have to pay for my student health insurance myself in-full by September 30th (the end of this month). Last year, my health insurance was fully covered by my scholarships and financial aid, but since I am not a full time student due to my medical leave of absence, I lost all of my scholarships and financial aid this semester. Now I have a $1400 bill that needs to be paid off by the end of the month, and I simply cannot afford it. I am not in contact with either my parents, and the chemo I am on drains my energy, making it impossible for me to have a job right now (usually I have 2-3 jobs). My health insurance is a vital part of my life right now, as chemo is very expensive, and thus it is essential that I pay this bill off.

I am hoping that if enough people donate a small amount each, soon I will have enough money to pay off the bill. I would have an endless amount of heartfelt gratitude towards anyone who helps me out even a little bit. A small donation would help me out immensely, or if you can't donate, please pass the link onto friends and family. It would help my pay for my health insurance so that I can get through my chemo and get back to working hard to achieve my dreams. Thank you so very much.
