Hurricane Dorian Relief Fund: Guana Cay

Donation protected
WE GUARANTEE THAT 100% OF DONATIONS WILL MAKE IT STRAIGHT FROM OUR HANDS TO THE LOCALS IN NEED OF GREAT GUANA AND SCOTLAND CAY IN ABACO IN THE FORM OF RELIEF SUPPLIES.

On September first and second Hurricane Dorian passed over Abaco and Grand Bahamas leaving absolute destruction in its path. Homes, businesses and lives were lost. The category 5 hurricane  travelled slowly, crossing the Northwest Bahamas with up to 185 mph sustained winds and 220 mph gusts. Reports coming in show images of homes completely under water and absolute destruction of infrastructure. We have been told that currently the most necessary items are that of shelter. Please help us in providing the people of Great Abaco and Grand Bahama with somewhere to sleep.

Our hearts and prayers go out to a country so full of love and life. Who have always welcomed us to their home to explore their beautiful culture and cruise their crystal clear waters. My name is Gillian Morin, I'm a Canadian citizen, biologist, sailor and handy women who has been lucky enough to have sailed to the Bahamas a few times. I now spend most of my time in West Palm Beach renovating homes with my partner. Just over 3 years ago I visited the Exumas and was lucky enough to have met my partner John (captain, engineer, coast guard) while in George Town at the cruisers regatta. We fell in love and have now travelled to the Bahamas every year since. A year after our chance meeting we met our very dear friends  Captain Jeff and Cassandra (medical professional) on Rose Island off of Nassau. They are a loving, full spirited couple from Fort Lauderdale who live for the sea and own a 38 foot pursuit sport fishing motorboat. And just last year we spent a beautiful week on Long Island celebrating and attending our friends Caitlin (engineer) and Steve's (captain) marriage who someday see living out their lives, happily ever after in the Islands. We are a group of boaters/sailors who have found life, love and light in the islands. We are bound by the peoples beauty and generosity. And now we feel it is our time to support our friends who have fallen on such difficult times.

Please, help us. As of now, we are organizing a flight to leave September 18th to bring necessary parts for the heavy machinery made inoperable by Dorian. John and I will be there for two days getting their water maker working, clearing debris, making lists of needed construction materials and more. Once this is established we will be collecting construction material for roofs. The materials are set up to be delivered to a drop off point in Fort Lauderdale, be loaded into a shipping container and barged over to Bakers Bay, where we will send one of our volunteers to meet it and bring it south to The Guana Cay Command Canter. This has and will continue to be a HUGE collaboration of volunteers and donors including Christine and Ken Rule on Tybee Island in Georgia who are donating and delivering construction materials, local hardware stores that have donated tools, the Pompano Aviation Club who will continue to fly over volunteers and the Guana Cay Relief Center in Fort Lauderdale who are housing materials and shipping them over. We are blown away by the contributions and support and continue to thank all those who have donated! Lets keep going!

If you feel, like us, a connection with the Islands of the Bahamas, have ever visited their waters or just feel an over whelming need to help and are not sure how then please take the time to donate to this cause.
And be rest assured, every dime donated will go to the aid of the people of the Bahamas through the purchase of supplies including tools, parts, construction material etc., rental of equipment and survival items for volunteers (housing and food) All donations will be tracked and accounted for. Anything purchased will be listed, with photo, on the update of this site so you can see exactly where your donations end up. As we get closer to departure we will constantly update you on the progress of our efforts.

In addition if you are in South Florida but do not have the ability to donate please consider dropping off any of the following supplies to our collection drop offs in fort Lauderdale or West palm beach.
