June's Cancer Challenge

My name is June Thompson. I am 57 years old. My cancer journey first started when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 36 years old. At that time I had two young daughters of 7 and 9 years old so l certainly wasn't going to give up and thankfully I overcame the odds in 1995. Unfortunately, 19 years later, in March 2014 I found a lump in my breast. I got an appointment quite quickly at the breast clinic and it was confirmed to be cancer. At that time my daughter was due my first grandchild on the 3rd April 2014 so this was a very tough time for us all. I had several scans and tests and then had surgery on the 1st April 2014 to remove the lump that was found. What happened next felt like a never ending nightmare.  I was told that, during the surgery, a tumour was found attached to the axilla vein which could not be removed as if the vein was damaged in anyway I would bleed to death. Following this I was told I had an aggressive HER2+ cancer that had spread. My first grandchild came along on the 11th April 2014 and that summer I began chemotherapy. Scans showed that my cancer had remained 'stable' during chemotherapy and to this day I remain 'stable'. However the drugs I currently take (Herceptin and Perjeta every 3 weeks) will only work for a limited time. The treatment options in the UK are very limited for someone in my position. I have undergone drastic dietry changes and alternative therapies but nothing has had an impact. I have researched and researched these last two and a half years and I believe I can reach remission in Germany as the treatment options there at The Hallwang Clinic are so much more advanced and they aren't on offer in the UK, however they are very costly. So this is why I set this page up, in a quest to raise funds to go to Germany. I now have three beautiful grandchildren and I want to watch them grow up and be the best 'Ninny' I can be for them. If you can share/donate to my page I would be forever grateful to you.

Meanwhile I will continue fighting this cancer with everything I have.         June xxx
