Yes, she is a Dallas Cowboys fan(atic), but she needs your help. Michelle La Mont is my daughter, and she has had Diabetes Type 1 since age 3, which means she has endured daily insulin injections and diabetes control for more than 40 years. She has beaten the odds to stay alive, but she has many complications of this “invisible” disease. To look at her, you would not think she is seriously ill. But, in November 2012, she went into kidney failure, one major diabetes complication, and was hospitalized requiring kidney dialysis. After several months of hospitalizations and rehabilitations, she was released to outpatient dialysis 3 to 4 times a week for 3 to 4 hour sessions. She has survived several hospitalizations for congestive heart failure due to fluid overload. Every few months, she has endured clearing of the fistula inserted in her arm to increase her blood flow during dialysis. She is on the waiting list for a kidney but the list is long and the wait seems endless. She needs a kidney, preferably from a living donor, or she will get one from an organ donor when the time is right. If you are or know of a willing donor with O Positive blood, please contact us as soon as possible. In the meantime, we are hoping for donations to cover expenses of the surgery not covered by Medicare and those expenses after transplantation for medical follow-up and daily anti-rejection medications. Kidney failure is called End Stage Kidney Disease. It requires a day-to-day fight for survival. It kills people, and Michelle is too young and vital to die. She is courageous and has a positive attitude as she takes life day by day. She has a daughter and a young granddaughter who she wants to see grow up. She is computer savvy and has a very creative mind. She wants to do things she wants to do rather than being tied to the schedule of a dialysis machine.
