Hope Thrives For Houston

Students Helping Students
Specifically, At-Risk and Special Need Students and Communities in Houston.

We are Claire and Emma, high school sophomore students in Houston.  Although we are twins and very different, we share a commitment to give back because we know we are blessed and have a duty to do so., like you, which is probably why you are on thiis website!  We have volunteered for different causes since we were in pre-school thanks to great teachers and family and we know we can make a positive, lasting difference in our own backyard, that's Houston.

This summer we chose to volunteer for organizations that really changed us.  We wanted to do more as we sat side by side playing cards with students who could not add or read even though they were in 7th grade. Some went home to no electricty, some no food, others no parents and many special needs that are not supported or adequately helped by anyone except the charities.

As a result, we decided to volunteer our time AND to raise money to donate so these charities can buy and offer needed resources .  One deck of cards isn't enough.

We plan to design, make and sell jewelry with 100% of all proceeds going to several specific charities.  We need help to build our inventory  and website as we have already used all of our savings.  If we are able to raise money,  we will sell more jewelry and donate more money to great charities that serve at-risk and special need communities.   We picked charities that have a  4 or 5 star ratio of donation dollars reaching the children in Houston and that we have had personal experiences with them, too.
They are:
1.  The Nehemiah Center.
2.  The Ronald McDonald House
3.  The Lighthouse of Houston
4.  Kids Meals which is part of Meals on Wheels

All of these charities serve students really well.   For example, Emma and my Mom have pesonally stayed at the Ronald McDonald House when they traveled for a doctor's appointment and Emma has been to camp at the Lighthouse of Houston while she has also volunteered there.   It is also where she learned to swim which is really different for any child who is visually impaired or blind.

By the way, we both were born premature and Emma's eyes were damaged.   It hasn't stopped her because she has had lots of great teachers and the kind of support every child needs but many don't have access to.   Today, these charities are helping Houston children who don't know or don't have the resources to thrive.    We also plan/hope to expand the number of charities that we want to support so more Houston children can benefit. We pay no salaries or employees, everything is done by volunteers.

Our first jewelry sale made $4500. and we sold about 85% of our inventorty.   While this is a good start we have a lot more to do.   Our pricing  on jewelry is between $7.50 and $500.00 based on the materials.   If you can donate any amount  of money to this time to our GoFundMe effort it will help make a big difference in serving Houston.

We are learning that we need cashflow and horsepower to build the needed invetory and a website required to continue our momentum.  We need to make more jewelry as everyone loved it and we have been asked to show our jewelry at several trunk shows and stores already scheduled through the end of 2016.

Everything started as we designed, made and sold jewelry by high school students, friends, and neighbors sitting around our kitchen table at night, after school and on the weekend.  We have all been trained by professionals.  But now, we have an offsite location donated by a private school where student can volunteer and where we will make the jewelry going forward.

Even an art teacher and friends from both of our community service groups are volunteering along with the National Honor Society members.  We are so thankful to everyone who wants to help and participate in our shared mission.  By the way,  my sister and I co-founded the non-profit, not our Mom and Dad.

Although, our parents guide us.

We ask for your financial support - however much you can afford - to help us be able to sustain momentum and pay for our  website and additonal inventory to make more jewelry and be able to donate 100% of the proceeds to these charities and special children.

Our donation goal to the charities is $50,000.
We hope to raise $10,000 from the GoFundMe for start-up costs, inventory and our website.    We pay no salaries or personnel and everyone volunteers for free in the jewelry making process.  We have submitted our non-profit application to the IRS - thanks mom and dad.  We already have an EIN number.

We are truly grateful for anything you can do, even $5!  Hope is alive and well in Houston and our special Houstonians will thrive with your support!
