My name is Melissa Atkins from North Carolina. I am raising money for my husband Brad,of almost 30 years, to pay for hospital bills and treatment for cancer. Below is Brad’s story in his own words.
In March of this year, after an emergency visit to the ER with acute stomach pain, we found out that I have developed advanced cancer in my back and arm, as well as my adrenal glands. As you can imagine the prognosis was not great. My doctor has given me months to live.
Unfortunately the normal financial process for this is not an option for my family and I. Having recently returned from Europe, serving there as missionaries for 15 years, we had to change our insurance plan. As we searched for a new plan, we realized that we were not going to be able to afford traditional insurance. We opted to join a share plan; a system in which participants send money to each other to cover medical bills as needed. One downside to this option is that they are not required to cover pre-existing conditions. Because I had a melanoma spot on my back only 4 years ago, my current cancer is considered a pre-existing condition and therefore not covered by my share plan.
As you can imagine, my medical bills are mounting higher than I ever thought possible. At this point, in order to get the treatment I need, I am reliant on your generosity. Please consider helping in any way you can. I am seekingto extend this life and enjoy my wife, my boys and my grandchildren. As I said before, the timing of this is urgent and I need treatment as soon as possible.
