Our mam Geraldine was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
On the 21/06/2016.
This diagnosis was a devastating blow to our entire family.
Moms treatment started the next day with the first round of chemotherapy.
Two days before she was diagnosed she was packed and ready to go to her only son Stuarts wedding in America.
As you can imagine this was another huge blow to our mom our brother and ourselves. But mom continued to fight her battle here alone while we made the agonizing decision with moms blessing to travel to America to support our brother.
We watched our brother get married on the 9th of July with heavy hearts as mom had become very ill while we were away.
We have now been told mom will need a bone marrow transplant from a non related donor as she has no siblings. This treatment will take place in St James hospital Dublin in the near future. This again is leading us into the unknown both physically mentally and financially.
Previous to our moms diagnosis she had lost her home due to circumstances beyond her control.
So along with her illness coupled with her medical expenses this is yet another heavy burden for her to carry as financially she isn't in a position to fund a new home.
Mom is a loving mother to four of us and a loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren.
Our mom is a hard worker and worked right up to the day before she was diagnosed. She is the gel that keeps us all together.
We are looking for any help no matter how small that can make this journey easier for mom in anyway.
