We here at Broadway Estates MHP have one of the sweetest elderly resident we call Mr. Passey, who has come across some hard times. It all started back in June of 2015, his home of 30 years had a water leak which caused him to have a pretty large water bill. Mr. Passey came in on time and paid his rent along with that 1st high bill. When July’s statement hit and his water bill was well over $400, that’s when he started to get behind on his monthly rent due to being on a fixed income and dialysis. Mr. Passey would continually came in on time and pay his rent along with whatever little extra he could to put towards that water bill. Being a prideful man he never asked for help or asked for us to take away late fees. With his being on dialysis he couldn’t afford getting a scratch crawling under his trailer to fix the leak so it took him a while to get the money to get the leak fixed. Then his car broke down and he HAD to have transportation to make his doctor appointments so rent money went into fixing his car. Finally able to come in and start paying rent again he still did not ask for assistance with late fees, he just said it’s his bill and he will pay all late fees. Just when things were getting all fixed up and looking on the Brightside, his home sprung another leak. Mr. Passey STILL came in and paid his rent plus a little extra. His account was almost $3000 behind in rent from just late fees and large water bills and being unable to pay Aprils rent due to a health emergency, we felt something had to be done to help Mr. Passey.
Our maintenance supervisor took it upon himself to fix his last leak free of charge and on his own time. And our boss agreed to see what we could do with his account to help him get caught up. Luckily she allowed us to give a rent concession for his water bills and waive all late fees and stop accruing fees until he was caught up on his rent. We also set in a plan to check his water meter once a month to make sure there weren’t any more leaks.
Later that same day we get a call from another resident saying there was a water leak spilling into the street, we went to check it out and sure enough it was Mr. Passey’s home. Our guys went to check it out and its leaking in 6 different spots and its hot water so his gas bill is going up as well. With his home being over 30 years old it’s going to need to be completely re-piped. All our employees want to help out and pitch in what money and time we can but it’s becoming a much a bigger project than intended, now his home is crumbling to the ground from all the water damage and needs to be put up on more sturdy blocks. Mr. Passey being the person he is, will never ask for help so WE are asking for him. We couldn’t think of a more deserving sweet man than Mr. Passey. We’re hoping to raise enough money as soon as possible for supplies to re-pipe his trailer and get his house secured, along with a little extra to help him get back on his feet from all the excess bills. He’s already trying to re finance his car to help with the bill and we would like to help enough so he won’t have to worry about that. Mr. Passey lives alone on his fixed income having to deal with dialysis appointments and doesn’t need anything else to worry about then what’s for dinner. We understand that everyone has their own issues to deal with but any little thing to help out our Mr. Passey would be forever remembered not only by us but mostly it would mean the world to Mr. Passey.
