Flood Disaster Home Fund

Donation protected
Paul and I moved to Louisiana a little over a year ago so I could teach kindergarten in Donaldsonville Louisiana. We love it here - the people, the food... not so much the weather. This past weekend our house was flooded. We sandbagged the doors and stayed as long as we could, we had to evacuate at 1am on Sunday morning. The last time we saw it, there was 3 feet of water in it. We were not expecting more than an inch, so we stacked everything a foot off of the floor. Nearly all of our belongings are gone. We haven't been able to get back in as the water is still too high to enter safely.

We do have flood insurance (thank god), but we have a lot of expenses besides restoring our house. We do not currently have a place to live - a friend has kindly allowed us to sleep at his place but with our two dogs we are surly imposing on his life. We are hoping to buy an old trailer that we can park on our property and live in until our house is fixed up enough to move back into. As of now we do not know how long this will take - the insurance company said it will take up to a month just to finalize a report and I assume multiple months of construction before the home is livable again.

We have been so lucky to have such a support system of family and friends behind us - thank you so much for all of your support. We love you.
