Henley's Surly Bike Stolen Again

$1,550 of $2,000 goal

a few mornings ago i walked out the front door and saw a cut bike lock lying on the ground where there should have been a surly troll locked to the railing. the feeling was similar to last year when i walked out of whole foods and saw someone's dog locked to the bike rack where my salsa fargo should have been. also similar to the feeling i had three years ago when i woke up in the middle of the night in the middle of the guatemalan countryside to find darkness and rain where my first surly troll should have been. theft is never well-timed, and in my case it's come in the middle of a tour or right before a big trip. my girlfriend and i are leaving at the end of novmber on a nine month bicycle trip through asia and europe, so having another bike stolen now is impeccably poor timing.

we leave for bangkok on november 30th. i've got time to put another bike together but don't really have the money to do so. i'm basically starting from scratch and would really appreciate whatever support you (awesome family/friend/reader!) could manage :)

hello everyone! it's been a few weeks since i sent an update, so i wanted to drop one last message before i head out for asia. firstly, thanks again to everyone who donated money to help me get some new wheels. with all of your help, i was able to get the same model that was previously stolen, as well as a hefty lock! i took it out for a 200 mile ride in southern utah a few weeks back and thought of your generosity often as i pedaled through some incredible scenery (see attached photo!)

i'm compiling a list of addresses so that i can send "thank you" postcards from the trip, so if you haven't yet, please email me your mailing address to hnly33@gmail.com. thanks! if you want to see photos from the trip as we go, we'll be posting from time to time to our instagram accounts (@katievisco, @henley.phillips).

thanks again to all of you!

hello everyone! i just came back from my last shift at my job here in utah and saw that a lot of people pitched in the last few days! thank you all very much for the help!

i've worked out a great deal with one of my favorite bike shops in salt lake city and am actually headed to pick up a new bike today! i can't say how much i greatly appreciate the kindness and generosity - i won't soon forget it.

as a small compensation, i would love to send each of you a postcard with an update on the trip. please send me a quick email (hnly33@gmail.com) with your address and i'll make sure it happens.

i hope the kindness comes back around to each of you, as it definitely should!
