Hello there -
Jim "Rags" Telfer is a 98 year old friend of mine. Other than fighting in WWII for 5 years, he has been a resident of Joliet his whole life and has touched many people's lives - including my own. For the last 2 years, he has been living in Assisted Living in Crystal Lake so he can be near his niece and so she can take care of him. This has been a wonderful thing and with the help of the VA he has been able to afford it. Until now.
He has been in the hospital recently and has been fighting pneumonia. His level of care is going up (an extra $450 a month) because he now has to be on oxygen (hoping it is temporary) and get breathing treatments. As you can imagine, working on getting healthy is hard enough without the added stress of worrying about how to pay for this, or even worse, the thought of having to move.
Rags has been an independent guy his whole life and he doesn't know I'm asking for help for him. At nearly 99 years old, and a WWII vet, my hope is that we can raise enough money to allow him the dignity of spending his days in what he has come to call home, and keep getting the amazing care he's been getting for at least another year.
