Jennifer Miller Medical Fund Needs

Dear Friends,

My name is Jennifer Kanzler Miller, I am 32 years old and live in Georgia.  My terrific hubby Joe and I met after college, when I began teaching the same subject l as he did -- we were both Math teachers, me in Middle School and Joe in High School. We fell in love while sharing our love of teaching. Our first three years of marriage were just great -- we are both very much into being healthy and active, so we enjoyed bicycling, hiking with our dog, team sports, running, and just…being together.

But then…I started feeling…different…and they discovered I had a brain tumor on my pituitary gland, which was surgically removed in February 2015.  Since that time, I have been hospitalized almost more than I’ve been home due to complications from this surgery.  I’ve contracted meningitis, diabetes insipidus, hydrocephalus, vasospasms, enlarged ventricles in my brain, and several other life-threatening conditions. Due to these complications, I have two shunts in my skull that assist in draining the cerebral spinal fluid from my brain.

Because the surgeon had to remove my pituitary stalk (the communication network for controlling hormone levels and messaging other glands like the thyroid), I am required to take multiple medications, and have been in and out of the hospital and subsequent inpatient rehabilitation (relearning how to walk) for over 1,100 days because my levels were not controllable, my shunts failed, my ventricles enlarged, and I’ve developed numerous infections.

My hubby has been just amazing through these last few years, but all my medical crises and emergencies have been incredibly difficult for him…and us…emotionally, as well as financially.

Right now, I am hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,  MN, in the hopes they can put an end to my body’s cycle of awful, life-threatening crises and help me to live as normal a life as possible, and they’ve slated me for a reparative shunt surgery on April 25. But between these newest expenses – over $4000 to date on airline tickets, hotel room, special foods for me, deductibles, and Joe (and my mom) taking yet more time away from work without any pay – we’ve exhausted those funds already generously donated and are now overwhelmed with looming debt and…we’re struggling with feeling hopeless.

Any financial help you could give to a young married couple -- who need hope for their future -- would be deeply appreciated, even donating frequent flyer miles, or Hotel Rewards points. God bless you and thanks SO MUCH for caring!!!
