Jessica's Fighting Lymphoma Fund

When you think of a 24 year old, you think of someone who is young and planning a future, careless strolls in the park, spur of the moment trips, or watching a favorite band play at a local club. Living a life that isn't as serious as when you're older.

But when you are faced with an illness that changes your world in the blink of an eye, you begin to look at life much differently. You have no time to waste; these choices have to be made in a second, for your future, for family and continuing on your path of life.

Cancer is a word that many don't like to say, a word that gets hushed and swept under the rug. But it's as real as the sun rising tomorrow. It is something that has touched nearly every family or friend in this world. The fight not only begins, but will continue forever.

Our daughter Jessica is 24 years old, smart, responsible, was never in trouble and is a great kid. As parents, we couldn't be happier. After a running start and AA degree when she graduated high school, she attended Paul Mitchell School for hair. Now living in Portland and getting her life started, she is suddenly faced with many difficult decisions.

A couple weeks ago, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of cancer that is said to be very responsive to chemotherapy. In the last couple weeks she has been faced with doctors’ appointments and tests for hours on end each day. If things aren't stressful enough, she is also confronted with the choice to plan for a family in the future.

When you're 24 years old, and have your whole life ahead of you, all of these treatments and split decisions are very tough things. Over the next 6 months, she is going to have a rough time as her energy levels decrease and the effects of chemotherapy take its toll on her body. Her medical bills are already piling up, some things are covered under insurance and other things aren't. We worry that she will be too tired to work and support herself during treatment.

We are staying hopeful and looking towards the day she is cleared of this cancer. We are starting this go fund me to help with her medical bills and monthly living expenses. We just hope to take a little stress off her shoulders, she deserves as much care and support as this world has to offer.

Please help if you can, any donations are greatly appreciated. It would be such a relief to have some of the weight lifted so she can focus on the real battle at hand.

Thank you,
