We love this painting by Imelda Almqvist called "Different Roads to Motherhood" because it shows that the journey to parenthood is not as straight forward for some.
We have been on a long journey to become parents. We are not there yet but with your support, we will get closer to our goal. We are by nature private people. Although some of our close friends know this tale, many do not. It has taken a lot of courage for us to share such a personal story. It’s a vulnerable thing.
After two years of insemination and three miscarriages, we've decided to adopt a child. We knew the statistics were not in Jen's favour given her age and that there was no guarantee of success. We've received a tremendous amount of emotional support from family and friends, for which we are grateful.
We know that it takes a village to raise a child. We decided to share our dream with friends and family and we were not surprised to hear how excited and supportive people were. Men and women are now looking forward to being loving aunties, uncles, and grandparents–even those who are not blood kin. We have a village around us and our child will be loved and supported by many stellar role models.
We have invested many years and $10,000 into this dream that has continued to grow stronger. Our bank has been great at fixing a loan with a low interest rate and we are half way to paying off these original IUI costs. The adoption process will take 12-30 months to complete from start to finish so we want to get going as soon as possible (by June 15, 2016).
Adoption through a private agency here in Alberta will cost around $15,000. We are proud people and it’s not easy for us to ask for help. The truth is we need financial support in order to bring this dream to life at this point. We've counseled so many friends to reach out for help when they need it throughout the years and now we are taking this advice to heart.
If you are willing and able to donate to this cause–no matter how much the amount–we are grateful. If you cannot, we completely respect that. Thanks for your part in this journey. Prayers for a successful, quick fit and well wishes are more than welcome too.
