Laurie's Breast Cancer Treatment

Our dear friend Laurie Singletary needs our help. Here's her story, in her words:

After decades of perfect mammograms, two tiny bits of breast cancer were found in August 2017. I've had one surgery and will have another on November 1, followed by 12 weeks of chemotherapy, then targeted IV therapy and radiation continuing until November 2018.

I am trying to stay tough about all the treatment, but the idea of losing my hair during it all is freaking me out. I want to try a Chemo-Cap, which cools the scalp and can prevent chemotherapy-induced alopecia. Unfortunately, they cost between $375 and $500 per month (depending on which cap is chosen), plus an initial $375–$500 security deposit. 

In addition to the cost of the cap, I'm hoping to raise funds for my transportation from work to the hospital, since I do not drive. During the radiation period, I'll have to go to treatment five days a week for six weeks, and the Lyft charges will really add up.

My chemotherapy begins on November 22, and I hope to be able to get a Chemo-Cap by then.

I hate to ask for help in this way, but I need it — and I'm trying to ask for help when necessary. I appreciate any little bit you may be able to contribute. Thank you.

[back to Jen] What I know for sure: Laurie is beloved. If everyone who considers her a dear friend contributes even a nominal amount, she will have what she needs in no time. She is brave, she is strong, she is a bad-ass, but she'd like to keep her gorgeous hair and not go broke while she kicks cancer's ass.
