Michelle Needs a Car!

Donation protected
My name is Michelle and I'm raising money for a downpayment for a new car.

In my photo, you'll see me standing next to my mom. She is so supportive of me in everything that I do, and continues to be my biggest fan. But sometimes, she can't be everyone's everything, and I know that as much as she would love to, she can't afford to just give me the downpayment for a car (and I can't expect her to). So I've set up a GoFundMe to do just that.

Recently, I've decided to take my future into my own hands. I'm fortunate enough to work in a field that I love, but unfortunately, love doesn't pay the bills (the field that I work in barely does). With money being tight, I came to the conclusion that I need to start my own businesses. Yes. Businesses as in two. And I'm apprenticing to hopefully become a business owner of a third within the next few years.

Ambitious? Yes. I've always been ambitious, but ambitions don't pay the bills, either.

I've been scraping by, paying the bills that keep my head above water, and any semblance of a savings goes straight back into debt...like those ugly student loan payments, or the tires I couldn't afford to buy, or the medical bills that add up because I can't even afford the copays. All that is fine and well...and then my check engine light went on.

I've had used cars and hand-me-down cars since I was in high school at the gracious hands of my parents, and they've all done the job for a few years. The problem with used cars, however, is that they cost money to keep running and that is money I don't have. Oil changes? Yes. Tires? Kind of, sometimes. Cosmetics? Definitely not.

So now, while I got my alternator issue fixed last year, my bumpers are now taped on, I've had an overheating problem for years, my blinkers aren't behaving properly, my AC no longer works, and now my engine light is on and according to those lovely folks at Advanced Auto Parts and their free diagnostic tool, apparently the cylinders in my engine are misfiring.

I love my car, as people tend to when they've had them for awhile, but I don't have the money to keep pouring into him in large doses, just to be in the exact same position in a few years, months...weeks.

It is time for a new car, and if I have the downpayment, I've talked to so many dealers who will finance a new car at a payment I can afford.

With a new car, I could make the 30 minute commute to work without worrying that I won't get there. I could actually drive to people's houses for business consultations without worrying if that might be it's last journey. I could make the hour and a half trip into the mountains to go to my apprenticeship. I could even go visit my mom more than at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Basically, my whole future is hanging on having reliable transportation. And every time I get into my current car, the future feels bleak.

All I ask is for help to pay a downpayment, and I can work on the rest. I also plan to use $400 of the money earned to pay back the tire place (they gave me my tires for free because they were dangerous to drive on but I couldn't afford to buy them).

Having your support would mean so much to me, my business, and my peace of mind. My mom wouldn't have to worry every time I get in my car to go somewhere, either.

The sooner I raise this money, the better so that I don't find myself on the side of the road again. I cannot thank you enough for your support! It really means everything to me, and hopefully, when business is up and running and actually making a profit, I'll be in a good enough place to pass the goodwill along in a way that is more than just my word.

$5, $10, $50, $100...it doesn't matter how much or how little you can donate, or if you can donate at all. Even if you can't, a share is a step in the right direction and perhaps my wish to have reliable transportation will compel just the right person who can donate. The more people I reach, the more I might make this dream a reality.

Once I have this piece of the puzzle, I can start turning these lemons into lemonade and make a brighter future for myself.
