Serving in Uganda

Friends and Family!

I am excited to share with you an opportunity that I believe God has placed in my life at just the right time! My whole life, I have had a heart for people living with disabilities. Through clubs and volunteer opportunities in high school, I felt God’s calling on my life to pursue a degree in Special Education. I quickly realized my passion for my degree after the many hours I spent in a Special Ed classroom throughout my first year. This passion is what led me to Camp Hawkins, a summer camp for children with special needs, where this calling on my life was only further affirmed. My time at Camp Hawkins is what opened the door to what I believe is the next step in God’s will for my life!

This fall, I will be working as an intern at Ekisa Ministries, a children’s home and school in Uganda for children living with special needs. Ekisa Ministries is a Christian non-profit based out of Fishers, Indiana whose goal is to see each of their children transformed through His glory by showing God's grace to them. In Uganda, living with special needs is viewed as a curse, and often times these people are shunned by their communities and families. Ekisa offers community outreach programs where they work to change the stigma towards people living with disabilities and empower families to better care for their child. Ekisa also creates a safe and nurturing environment for people living with special needs who need to know love and acceptance.

There are currently 27 orphaned children with special needs at the Children’s Home and 45 students at the Academy from the Children’s Home and community. Ekisa provides these children a place of understanding and assists them in their physical, mental, and spiritual growth.

My plan is to move to Uganda in early-mid September, where I will be assisting in the children’s education, physiotherapy, and general care. I will be returning in early-mid December. I am very eager to begin my time serving these awesome kids and blessed to have this opportunity to live out my passion every day through serving Ekisa. This internship will enhance my education and provide experience for my future as an educator.

To begin serving at Ekisa, I need to raise approximately $3,500 for the plane ticket, housing, transportation to and from the Children’s Home, and just general living cost. Any support is greatly appreciated, whether it be monetarily or through prayer. No amount is too small!

Thank you for your time and support!
