My name is Zac, I'm an artist and yoga teacher in Louisville and I absolutely need to get from Kentucky to Kenya in three months.
The Summary:
On September 29th I'm getting on a plane to London for Level 1, a weeklong, 100-hour Baptiste yoga teacher training. I'll be practicing, working and living with people from all over the world for seven days. From there I have 25 days to get from England to East Africa to work in Nairobi with the Africa Yoga Project for ten days before returning to the U.S.

Africa Yoga Project exists to create yoga teachers of young women and men in the slums of Kenya and her surrounding countries, to empower them to live big bold lives, to provide for themselves and their families and to spread the healing and connecting power of yoga in their communities to create real change.
The program I and six others from 502 Power Yoga are participating in is called a Seva Safari. Ours will be ten days of working with the AYP teachers to develop business and technical skills outside of their teaching for sustaining themselves as a business, planting a garden, practicing yoga with the AYP teachers and community and actually going on Safari.
Why?
THIS IS REAL CHANGE AND WORLD IMPACT AND I'M GOING TO BE IT.
I do NOT use Facebook as a forum for my political, religious and social views, I don't join protests or group chants, I don't engage in arguments about laws, taxes, what's right, wrong or moral to further my own beliefs against my neighbor's. I am strong in my convictions AND I see fear and misunderstanding everywhere. And in me.
This is how I change the world and take a stand for EVERY person I share it with. My community extends far beyond the borders of my city, state and country and into the hearts of all people. In this way my travel is not to abandon my community but to go deeper into it, to learn with others to ignite change and to bring all of that back to Louisville to everyone I touch in my classes and everyday connections. This is it.
Let's Get Down to Business:
I bought my plane ticket to London almost a year ago as a commitment to myself and saved up everything I had to finally pay for Level 1 in mid July. The help I need from YOU is to pay the program costs and fundraising requirements to join the Seva Safari with AYP and to travel the 4,236 miles from England to Nairobi.
-Program Cost - $2,000
-Fundraising Requirement - $4,000
-Travel Costs and Vaccinations - $1,050
-Louisville Rent so I have a home to return to - $950
What that money looks like for AYP:
-$5 Buys a yoga mat for an outreach location
-$20 Sponsors a yoga class for a group of marginalized youth
-$125 Sponsors a monthly stipend for one teacher to attend the AYP academy
-$330 feeds 300 people at our community class
-$500 provides clean drinking water at the Shine Center for 1 full year
-$2500 trains a marginalized youth to be a yoga teacher
