Nadine's VHL Treatment
Donation protected
Meet our sister, Nadine Capil. She was diagnosed with Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome in January 2014, a few weeks after turning 18 years old. The extremely rare disease makes her susceptible to tumors that grow in her eyes, brain, spine, pancreas, and kidney. In the last year she developed eye tumors called angiomas which affect the retina, the thin layer of light sensitive tissue on the back wall of the eye, making her experience chronic headaches, dizziness, problems with balance or walking, but mostly vision problems. Earlier this summer, Nadine experienced sudden vision loss on the left eye, caused by the angiomas that were bleeding, prompting her to go back to her doctor and eventually to a retinal specialist who found more tumors in the right eye as well that needed immediate attention. It was determined that both retinas in her eyes were detaching. The visual impairment halted her ability to drive, work, and even go to school. She is currently being treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital by Dr. Jason Horowitz. All donations will help the Capil family with their medical bills.
